International Education in Western Australia

As an international student in Australia, you can access a wide range of education options.

  • If you are still in school, you can enrol in primary or secondary school education to continue your studies in WA.Ìý
  • If you have finished school, you can enrol in higher education or get a university degree. Ìý
  • If you’re looking for a more hands-on learning experience, you can do a vocational education and training (VET) course.Ìý
  • If you’re coming to Perth to learn English, you can enrol in an English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS). Ìý
  • Finally, if you want to study at a university but don’t meet ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøentry requirements, you can undertake a bridging or foundation course to help you get into university, known as Pathway studies. ÌýÌý

The education pathways available to students

Western Australia has many world-class primary and secondary schools to choose from that provide a safe, encouraging education environment.ÌýÌý

School education is divided into two parts – Primary and Secondary:Ìý

  • Primary Education: Kindergarten to Year 6Ìý

  • Secondary Education: Year 7 to Year 12Ìý

  • Primary and Secondary Education are usually delivered through separate schools, although some schools offer education from Kindergarten up to Year 12.ÌýÌý

English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) are designed to help students improve their English language skills and prepare for their future studies.ÌýÌý

Upon successful completion, students can enter Vocational and Pathway Studies or Higher Education.ÌýÌý

Vocational Education and Training (VET) offers you ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøopportunity to learn practical skills and gain hands-on experience with many VET courses, including work placements or workplace-based training. Ìý

You can enrol in a VET course at a private college or one of ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøWestern Australian government’s colleges through TAFE International WA.ÌýÌý

In Australia, ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøhigher education sector includes universities, university colleges, and other types of institutions that award qualifications under ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøAustralian Qualifications Framework (AQF).ÌýÌý

You can undertake your undergraduate or postgraduate studies at one of Western Australia’s world-class universities or higher education institutions.ÌýÌý

If you’re set on a particular university course but you don’t meet ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøentry requirements, you can still work towards getting accepted into your dream course.ÌýÌý
