My name is Zaman, and I am a Mechanical Engineer at Calibre-WSP. After earning my bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in India, I relocated to Perth to obtain my master’s degree from UWA. In my spare time, I enjoy writing blogs and playing cricket. I also enjoy participating in community events and contributing positively to ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøcommunity.Ìý

What was your main reason(s) to select Perth as your study destination?Ìý
Perth is a popular study destination due to its high-quality education institutions, diverse culture, and beautiful natural environment. The people are super friendly and there’s always something happening in ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøcity. There are plenty of job opportunities in mining or energy for mechanical engineers. As a cricket enthusiast, ·¬ÇÑÉçÇørenowned WACA stadium was on my bucket list to experience a test match on its famous bouncy pitch.Ìý

Are there any notable experiences from your time studying you’d like to share?Ìý
I enjoyed participating in campus activities, I was a member of UWA Guild’s Equity and Diversity Team & Sports team. I liked ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøculture in UWA and loved making friends from around ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøworld.Ìý

Tell us about your experience since leaving Curtin – how has your career progressed to date? Any professional achievements you’d like to share?Ìý
After leaving UWA, I joined Calibre as a Graduate Mechanical Engineer. The graduate program lasted for 2 years. Upon completing ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøprogram, I took on ·¬ÇÑÉçÇørole of a Mechanical Engineer.Ìý

What are ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøtop 3 skills you need in your role as a Mechanical Engineer?Ìý
A strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, proficiency in using computer-aided design (CAD) software, and being a good team player.Ìý

What have you enjoyed ·¬ÇÑÉçÇømost about living and studying in Perth?Ìý
Perth’s sunny weather, beautiful beaches, cricket, opportunity to study in a multicultural environment and job opportunities.Ìý

What would you say to students thinking of coming to Perth to study?Ìý
Research your chosen course thoroughly, make ·¬ÇÑÉçÇømost of ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøopportunities available to you. Also do a proper financial planning.Ìý
