Tell us a bit about yourself.

Hi! My name is Eleanor, and I am currently working as an Auditor in one of ·¬ÇÑÉçÇømid-tier firms in ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøcity. I came into Perth in February 2022 from Malaysia to pursue my degree in Accounting in ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøUniversity of Western Australia, and I have been here ever since.

What was your main reason(s) to select Perth as your study destination?

I wanted a change in scenery from ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøhustle and bustle of ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøcity life in Malaysia, and Perth provided that. Its quiet, friendly, more reasonable cost of living, and well-balanced lifestyle stood out to me. Furthermore, ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøsunsets in WA are just stunning – I could never get tired of watching them. In addition, Perth also provided one of ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøbetter migration opportunities, so that definitely was one of ·¬ÇÑÉçÇømain reasons for selecting Perth as my study destination.

Are there any notable experiences you’d like to share from your time studying?

One thing that stood out for me was ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøfact that I had ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøflexibility to choose ·¬ÇÑÉçÇødays that I would like to attend my classes, such that I can arrange my week in a way that I am able to factor in working as a casual employee, extracurricular activities, and social activities. The lifestyle here highly prioritises on having a good work-life balance and it shows – through my days studying in UWA as well as now, working in a 9-5 job.

Tell us about your experience since leaving UWA – how has your career progressed to date?

I was fortunate enough to secure a job prior to graduating UWA, so that was one less thing I had to worry about. I definitely have learnt a lot these past months in Audit, as well as developing and improving my auditing skills and knowledge. I feel like I am more independent when I am doing my work and a little less reliant on my supervisor than when I first started. Despite saying that, I still have a lot of things to learn as my career is only just beginning.

What are ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøtop 3 skills you need in your role as an Account Manager?

  1. Time management
  2. Detail-oriented
  3. Interpersonal skills

What have you enjoyed ·¬ÇÑÉçÇømost about living and studying in Perth?

The opportunities that I have had and ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøexperiences and lessons that I have been able to take away from them. Not to mention ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøamazing people that I have met along ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøway. Furthermore, ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøbalanced lifestyle and culture are quite different to Malaysia, and I love every minute of it. The sunsets, views, markets, beaches, gardens, cafes are some of my favourite things about Perth.

What would you say to students thinking of coming to Perth to study?

If circumstances allow for it, I say 100% do it. It is one of ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøbest decisions I have ever made, coming to Perth to study and I do not regret it one bit. It has provided me with an abundant room for personal growth, plenty of opportunities that I am beyond grateful for them and ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøexperiences and lessons that came from it. If you are unsure of whether you should take ·¬ÇÑÉçÇørisk, have ·¬ÇÑÉçÇøcourage to take a leap of faith. You might surprise yourself with what you are able to achieve during your time abroad.
